The internet is a basket of wonderful things.
My favorite web tool, Google Reader, recently added a feature called Popular Items, which has opened up the best of the internet that I don’t actively follow. I am increasingly pleased with my ability effortlessly to coast on a wave of interesting items which trigger the quiet drip of pleasure chemicals deep within my skull. The trick now is to learn to reward myself with novelty, and not drown myself in it.

Hey ho,
Hm, I’m not so sure about Google Skynet, even if it is a joke. The ‘bot thing is impressive, but also creepy, not because it’s a ‘bot, but because of what it’s packing. It picked up all those chicken parts without sterilizing between chicken parts. I guess that’s why they have to nuke everything in those packages. It makes me nostalgic for hand made things and hand done things–I guess I’m becoming a real Luddite. But it’s not the ‘bot, it’s what it’s used for. To give humans the power to do bad things twice as fast… But it is nice not to see humans packing all that.
But what do you think of ‘bot slavery?
The brain thing was cool looking, but I could not help but think of all the mice dying. Hm. I guess you and I see different things. But I do like the movies, some of them. I still think that the Internet may be one huge encyclopedia, but what will you do with it other than assuage your demand for entertainment, kind of an info-fix? It raises all kinds of ethical questions in me to see posts like this.
No happy chemicals for me–surfing for me is trying to get a square peg in a round hole. But I don’t surf with the wave, but always against it; so that’s the difference. If you’re trying to get info out, it’s harder than just enjoying the stream racing by.
But I’m a contributor, certainly. Just not a rapper.
